Celebrating 2.500 REFCON systems sold 22-12-11

REFCON anno 1987

Global Container Efficiency celebrates the REFCON order number 2.500.

New order becomes the REFCON systems no 2499 and 2500

On the 1st of December 2011 an order for two REFCON systems for the Hyundai Samho shipyard in Korea was secured.

The new systems, which are REFCON systems no 2499 and 2500 sold from Johnson Controls, are to be installed on two 4.672 TEU container vessels, monitoring up to 550 reefer containers, and will be delivered to the German ship-owner Oltmanns GmbH.

REFCON has become the de facto standard

The very first REFCON system was delivered back in 1987, and Global Container Efficiency can here, a month before the system would have had 25-year anniversary, celebrate the REFCON order number 2.500.

Although the REFCON system today is a de facto standard for container ships and terminals, it actually took 7 years to reach the first 100 orders! However it only took a further 2 years to secure the next 100 systems.

First system installed on Marchen Maersk based on digital inputs

According to our reference list, the first systems were installed on the Maersk, Lindø series 123. The very first vessel in this series was Marchen Maersk. This first system was based on a digital input system, with two digital switch inputs for each container showing the status through the display panel lamp.

Original vessel now upgraded to ISO10368 standard

The systems on the M-series have naturally been updated several times since then, including an upgrade to ISO10368 powerline communication. The ships had a capacity of 4300 TEUs, and back then they were were huge container vessels.

Today they are no longer owned by Maersk, but have been sold to another of our good customers, Costa Mare Shipping in Greece, who is charter sailing for MSC , the world's second largest container shipping company. The original "Marchen Maersk" is now called "MSC Mykonos"

Latest delivery based on latest generation of REFCON

The new systems that will be delivered to Hyundai Samho ships, are of course based on our latest generation of Power Cable Transmission , including newest REFCON 6 platform, full compatibility with all reefer manufacturers, interface to the vessel loading calculator and interface to the unique Global Monitoring Server.
